Hypnobirthing & Postnatal Support
Hypnobirthing and Early Days
In 1957, after two years of study by eminent neurologists and psychoanalysts, the BMA issued a statement that ‘hypnosis is an effective method of relieving pain in childbirth’ and proposed that all doctors should train in hypnotherapy. The seeds of the natural birth movement were first sown with the work of eminent obstetrician Dr.Grantly Dick-Read. After witnessing a home birth in the slums of the London Docks in 1913 where the mother refused any pain relief and then proceeded to give birth quickly and with no pain, Grantly Dick-Read was truly amazed. The mother’s comment after giving birth when he asked why she refused the pain relief was “It didn’t hurt. It wasn’t meant to, was it, Doctor?” This experience was defining, and after a career of working on the battle field in the first world war and subsequently in hospitals as an obstetrician he theorized that fear was the overriding cause that led to the pain in childbirth. At the end of his career he wrote the book “Childbirth Without Fear”. He hypothesized that when you are fearful, you tense up and the natural birth process is inhibited and becomes longer and consequently more painful. ~ exerpt from the KG Hypnobirthing website
Why choose Hypnobirthing?

This hypnobirthing course not only equips you with the hypnobirthing information, but uniquely gives you the knowledge to understand your options and the implications of the choices you make.  As well as teaching you the techniques you need for a successful hypnobirth, it gives you the information to navigate the system in which you find yourself to achieve the best outcome for you and your baby. What will we cover? -Breathing exercises -Deep relaxations -Visualisations -Very effective work to release fear and build confidence -Comforting massage -How the father/birth partner can be your powerful protector and support -How your body is designed to give birth with efficiency and comfort -Knowledge and information about the whole process -How ‘the system’ that you find yourself in works, and how to work with it to achieve the best result for you -A simple practice regime to support you at home -Understanding how the mind and body work together -Normal newborn behaviour, sleep patterns and crying -The breastfeeding journey (a non-judgemental, holistic approach) including what to do when things don’t go according to plan and where to find support -The transition to parenthood and the world from the eyes of a newborn -What happens in the first 6 weeks, a practical, physical and emotional look -My ongoing support throughout your pregnancy and postnatal period via phone calls, Facebook, email and home visits -Unlimited access to a comprehensive and easy to use pack of resources online that I have been building and fine-tuning over years to ensure it is concise, engaging and empowering -A concise and evidence based physical pack of handouts -And more! Occasionally we hear of a woman who gives birth quickly and comfortably, and we think, ‘Isn’t that amazing?’  But if one woman can do it, a woman’s body is made in such a way that it can be done so, given normal circumstances, any woman could do it. Of course a woman may occasionally need extra help, and we are indeed fortunate to live in a society where that help is available, but the real question should be, ‘What has gone wrong with our society that a birth like this is considered unusual?’  Something indeed has gone badly wrong.  With hypnobirthing you learn how to put it right.
“We’ve just finished our amazing Hypnobirthing course with Jennie. She has a wealth of knowledge and brings a calm and grounded energy (as well as chocolate biscuits) into every session. She has ignited a deep excitement and confidence at the prospect of giving birth again; and for all her ongoing support we are so very grateful. Such a great introduction to the world of Hypnobirthing” ~ Phyllida, Taunton
Hypnobirthing is logical, simple, practical and very effective; a complete antenatal education.  It makes a difference to your experience of giving birth, and gives you the tools to give your baby the best possible start in life

“Jennie is a wonderful lady with a vast

knowledge of all things birth, baby and

booby related! She has supported me

through my pregnancy and beyond, as well

as given me the tools I needed to make

informed choices and to feel empowered in

my pregnancy and birth. I had quite a scare

during my pregnancy, which led to a drastic

change in my birth plan, but with Jennie’s

support I was still able to have a very

positive labour, with a smooth transition

into motherhood and breastfeeding which I

don’t feel would have been possible were it

not for her. Her continuity of care is

excellent, and she also makes a cracking

cup of tea. Thank you lots Jennie, much love

from me and my babies”
