Postpartum Wellness and Recovery
Two hours where it’s all about you, the mother, who is so often forgotten in the excitement and wonder of a new baby. This session is a time where I will hold space for you. This time can be spent debriefing your birth or feeding experience, or whatever it was that brought you to have this session. I can include Reiki healing and Closing the Bones massage to support your emotional and physical wellbeing and recovery. Please see below for details of the massage and benefits of Reiki. I am happy to be contacted if you would like further information with no obligation to book.
Closing the Bones Closing the Bones is a combination of postnatal tummy massage and the use of a shawl to gently rock and squeeze the pelvis. The technique comes from Mexican tradition and I use a genuine Mexican hand woven rebozo (shawl) in my practice. Being taught this technique by Sophie Messager and her colleague Teddy Brookes, who is an Osteopath, provided an unique insight into the ancient wisdom behind the technique combined with the scientific aspects of why and how it supports us not only postnatally, but through many transitions in our lives. The comfort of being rocked and held is something most adults only experience as children and yet the benefits never go away. Rhythmic movement relieves emotional and physical tension and releases feel good hormones, as does being cuddled. My experience of Closing the Bones was one of being held emotionally and spiritually, as well as physically. During the whirldom of new motherhood, the mother is often forgotten whilst all attention is on the baby. The mother is often left to get on with things as normal, all the while trying to make sense of the profound transition she is experiencing. The benefits of a Closing the Bones massage and ceremony are multi-layered and I can't wait to share the technique with others. Maiden, Mother, Crone, Man or Child, this technique will benefit you.
Reiki Healing Reiki is gentle energetic healing that aids deep relaxation, balance and harmony in the mind, body and spirit. Reiki removes energy blocks and toxins from the body aiding sleep and the body’s natural ability to heal itself. I love to combine Reiki with Closing the Bones because this energy healing compliments other therapies and treatments. I have crafted this session so that initial debriefing raises or uncovers anything that needs healing, the Bone Closing creates a rhythmic and safe environment so emotions, feelings or memories that are blocking growth can be released, and then the body is cleansed with healing.
“Jennie came to my house and performed a closing the bones massage, I could not fault her at all. We had a lovely birth debrief which helped release lots of emotions surrounding my birth, for her to then perform an amazing massage and reiki on myself, plus she left me with some delicious teas! Something every mother should have done.”
Let us reclaim the old traditions of honouring the mother. Let her feel heard, let her feel held, let her be empowered and rich in her new world.
What to expect during a Closing the Bones massage Ahead of the massage I discuss your preferences with you over the phone. I will prepare a mat on the floor and lay one or more shawls on top. I may also use relaxing music and lovely scents for the room according to your preferences (a diffuser, some scented candles), and pull the curtains to make the space lovely and cosy. You then lie on your back on the prepared mat. First I rock your hips for a while using the rebozo. Then I massage your abdomen and hips, using a special warming oil, following a specific sequence of movements designed to loosen and relax you. I then rock your pelvis some more with the rebozo. Finally I will wrap your hips, or wrap you from your head to your toes with several shawls and cover you with a blanket to keep you nice and warm. Whilst you lay there I will add elements that fits your circumstances, reading a poem, singing a song, drumming, or simply keeping my hands on your body, whilst you integrate the process. When it’s finished, I leave you to relax for a bit and go and prepare you a lovely drink. There is a chance to chat about the experience for a while afterwards. Session cost:         £50    approximately 2 hours
